Course Format Release V1.1.0

LMS

Workplace

Released in Q3 2025

This smaller release focuses on smaller improvements & quality of life enhancements based on our early adopters feedback.

We’re excited to introduce a new Quick Find search to assist users in getting to the content they need, more quickly. This is especially useful in larger courses where the course index menu might be incredibly long, meaning users can have trouble finding certain activities or resources.

We’ve focussed on a few quality of life improvements too, especially around the handling of images uploaded to topics and activity tiles. Additional parameters and new settings provide more control for course editors, allowing for flexibility in image sizes uploaded.

We welcome any feedback on this release and hope you and your users enjoy the enhancements.

Supported on version(s):

  • Moodle LMS & Workplace 4.5

A note from Edd Clementson, Product lead at Titus

We’ve worked on this smaller v1.1 release to ensure customer feedback was heard and responded too. This release is mostly smaller changes, again introducing a few new settings and adjustments to existing settings once again to provide more flexibility within a course.

The only larger feature is the new ‘Quick find;’ search bar that we’ve introduced to topic & sub-topic pages. We’ve spent a lot of development effort on our self serve mechanism in the form of the learning library, helping users find relevant courses in the most effective we way; however finding specific course resources can still be tricky in larger courses. For this reason the new ‘Quick find’ search allows users to more easily find activities or topics based on their name by typing into the live search bar present on topics and sub-topic pages.

We hope you enjoy this smaller release and as always welcome any feedback you have.

Key Features

New 'Quick find' live search option to easily find topics & activities

Empower learners to self-direct their learning and significantly improve usability and learner experience by enabling the new ‘Quick find’ search bar.

Allow users to interact with a live search bar to more easily find topics, sub-topics or activities based on the search terms entered. For larger courses, finding specific resources can be tricky, even using the course index menu; but with the new Quick Find search you can streamline searching on the course home, topics pages and sub-topics pages.

'Direct link to activity' option allows learners to access activities quicker

Reduce ‘clicks’ for learners by enabling the ‘direct link to activity setting on a topic/sub-topic level.

When this setting is enabled, when out of edit mode, users who click to access the topic/sub-topic either within the course area or from the course index menu; will be taken directly into the activity in this area.

This should reduce frustrations for users in courses that are built using singular activities per topic such as SCORM packages.

More control over image properties on tiles

Introducing 3 changes to how images can be handled when uploaded to topics and activities. Firstly we’ve added an option for ‘Center’ alignment to the ‘Tile image position setting’. Secondly we’ve introduced a new setting for ‘Tile image object-fit’ to allow editors to choose how images fit inside the available space. Thirdly we’ve introduced topic & activity level settings for these 2 parameters, to override the course defaults if needed.

Hide 'section 0' from being displayed

We’ve created a new course level setting ‘Display section 0’, allowing course editors to hide this ‘special’ section and focus on adding content into standard sections/topics for increased control over content.

Course editors can use the previously introduced ‘course subtitle’ and ‘course home summary’ to introduce welcome or instructional information onto the course home page.

Hide the course index menu from being displayed

For certain courses, the course index menu that expands/collapses from the left hand side of the page isn’t always needed. A new setting allows editors to disable this menu from being shown to users on the course.

Updated the default state of the course index menu to 'collapsed'

On first visit to a course using this format, the course index menu will be collapsed. Once a user has expanded/collapsed the topics based on their preference, this state will be remembered between course visits.

'Estimated duration' improvements

Some minor changes to estimated duration within activities. The default time domain dropdown was changed from weeks to minutes and an issue was resolved where removing an estimated duration value or adding a ‘0’, didn’t save and update the setting value correctly.

Removed text and media activites from being part of activity count

The Text and Media ‘resource’ no longer adds to the activity count for topics & sub-topic tiles to reflect a more accurate (and less confusing) number of activities.
